Limbic upgrades its clinical AI assistant, Limbic Care, to bring regulated AI scribe technology to NHS mental health services

Limbic partners with TORTUS to embed a Class I Medical Device ambient voice technology into Limbic Care, combining clinical AI expertise with shared values around patient safety and clinical relevance.
Limbic Care, a clinical AI assistant for caseload management and patient engagement, has already helped over 55,000 patients across NHS Talking Therapies stay engaged on the waitlist and in between sessions. For clinicians, Limbic Care reduces administrative burden across the care pathway. It’s an AI-powered extension of their treatment plan that engages patients and boosts recovery outcomes. For patients, Limbic acts as a 24/7, conversational care companion, supporting patients at every step of their treatment journey. The app turns static worksheets into personalised, interactive care they can talk to anytime, anywhere, so patients don’t have to wait for their next session. Evidenced in JMIR, Limbic Care has also supported improved reliable recovery and reliable improvement rates.
Limbic Care is updating its clinician Dashboard that now includes:
- A medical AI scribe, powered by TORTUS, with ambient listening, real-time capture, and auto-formatting templates
- Guided sessions that allow patients to dive deeper into a conversational and adaptive CBT exercise.
- Complete patient information overview including a preferred name field.
- Patient details are now editable within the clinician’s Dashboard.
- Ability to resend patient invitations to the Limbic Care app.
By combining intelligent caseload management, consultation documentation, and 24/7 patient support all in one place, Limbic Care reduces administrative burden while improving patient outcomes.
Partnering with TORTUS
Limbic, the only clinical AI provider purpose-built for mental health services, announced a partnership with TORTUS, a leading medical AI scribe provider, to integrate automated clinical documentation directly into Limbic Care.
The partnership brings together two innovators united by the same foundational belief: that AI in clinical settings must be held to the highest standards of safety and clinical relevance. For Limbic, that meant one criterion above all others when evaluating a scribe partner: shared values, not just shared technology.
There are a growing number of AI scribe tools entering the market. We chose TORTUS because they approach patient safety and clinical rigour the same way we do. This isn't a technology bolt-on, it's a values-aligned partnership, embedded into the only mental health AI platform that is itself a regulated medical device. - Kathleen Henrick, UK General Manager at Limbic
We partnered with Limbic because they are leaders in safe, regulated clinical AI for mental health. Safety isn't an afterthought for them, it's core to what they've built, and the same is true for us. Limbic is already a critical part of the infrastructure for many NHS trusts, helping clinicians meet the ever-growing demand on mental health services. By having TORTUS' medical AI scribe natively embedded into the Limbic Care platform, we can deepen this impact even further, giving clinicians more time back, and patients the thing that matters most: feeling heard. - Ladislaya Ladanyi, Partnerships at TORTUS
Powered by a Medical Device Certified AVT
TORTUS's ambient voice technology (AVT) is a Class I Medical Device, a regulatory standard that reflects the same commitment to safety and clinical governance that underpins Limbic’s approach to clinical AI. By integrating this technology within Limbic Care, NHS mental health services can adopt AI-assisted documentation with full confidence in its safety credentials.
Freeing up clinical time where it matters
The integration directly addresses one of the most significant operational pressures in NHS mental health services: administrative burden. Clinicians can spend a substantial portion of their working day on documentation, time that could otherwise be spent in direct patient care.
With this new capability embedded in Limbic Care, services will benefit from:
- Automatic generation of clinical letters using standardised templates, reducing manual drafting time
- Standardisation of clinical notes across entire teams, improving consistency and governance
- Ambient, real-time transcription that captures clinical conversations without disrupting the therapeutic relationship
Why this is different
Unlike standalone AI scribe tools, this functionality is embedded inside Limbic Care, meaning clinical context, mental health-specific understanding, and Limbic's safety and governance framework all apply. The result is not simply automated transcription, but structured, clinically intelligent documentation designed specifically for mental health care environments.
The functionality will be available to existing Limbic Care customers, with rollout continuing across NHS mental health services.
